2nd job...

Yup...hahaha....im now officially workin 2 jobs at once....
4 days of the week workin wif my sis' lecturer ,as her personal assistant..and the remaining
3 days as the Box Office kuli.
First day on the 2nd job was.....hmmm....let's see...
Was supposed to come in at 9.00 am...but the 'boss' said she'll be a tad late (she had gym...and yeah...her own personal trainer !)
So, in the end, met her at 10.00 ,accompanied by my sis of course.
With the departure of my sis...we began furniture re-arranging hahahaha.Im NOT jokin.
Computer was shifted to the window...so i can type all-day-long......
The file cabinet was emptied, dragged to the place where the comp table used to reside, and then we placed every single file back in it! lol.ok.thats not the best part yet!
Anyway, there are these journals which weigh a tonne each..and there are like 20 of them. We cleared the book racks by the door....and stacked all of the MLJ's by the wall (to make room for some future filing). At that point,i was thinking, did she not hire the wrong gender for this sort of work?hahahhaa...but when the room was 'cleaner'....i helped her sort her bills (or at least i consider them as bills)
Sis and friend walked in that very moment, needing to have an 'unofficial' meeting with their lecturer. They both got their egos boosted (needless to say regarding what)...and i was finally told my 'real' job.
My 'boss' is planning on publishing her own book.I serve the purpose as to type all the stuff that need typing. At first...it was like....no harm....just typin right....NO!!!!!
she started gathering all those papers.....and before i knew it....it was the thickness of a telephone directory!
Holy cow! and mind u...my typing speed is not that of a pro's...aihh...
Anyway....with lunch break and all....i ony managed approx..4 hrs of typin(20+pages)
sounds bad...i know....but my fingers oredi ache...cos i ony use 4 fingers to type at a time.....hahahahahhahaa serves me right for not learning the right method!
Okla....first day as kuli over...
Pls...fingers....do keep up....i wan the money...LOL!

And i shall make sure of it!

And now,it's already thursday. For this whole first week of working ,there shall be no off-day for me.*sob*sob*.It's sad ,but rules r rules...and i have no say against that. After the rm10 incident, i made it clear to everyone that whoever wishes to change money with me, please do not just throw the money into my drawer .Let me first ascertain if the change is correct. There is a good thing with gsc tho....altho if u lose money u have to pay outta ur own pocket, if there r any extras, u get to keep it. And if sumone else has extra and u have a short, they will cover ur short. Atleast,i think that practice is good. But getting a tip from a customer isnt as easy as it seems. Not every Malaysian is generous.hahaha.I should never expect too much. Not losing money, for me is excellent enuff.Being more careful with my money( even more than yesterday...i kept my drawer closed when im not there),today...i am glad as i did not suffer any monetary loss...hahahaha...
And my transaction time has gotten a lot of faster too.i should be happy bout that cos today i handled approximately rm1500.
After i punched out(yeah...on the third day,we get a punch card...woohoo) Sasi asked me if i wanted to join him and his friends for a movie called 'venom'.That kind of movie normally doesnt interest me much...but whattheheck,im a cinema crew, and us cinema crews get to watch all the movies for free.....y not fully exploit that benefit...right?hehehehehe....
So,we found out that Venom was only gonna start at 7.30 pm.We had 1 whole hour to waste...and the only movie goin on ...was 'Baik Punya Cilok'.In we went...with only half an hour left of the show. For days i had been wondering...what was sooo good about the movie that it keeps on being sold out?In my opinion, there was nothing really special bout the movie.Yea...it had its funny ,silly comedic moments where the whole cinema juz roared with laughter...but again, nutin Special....i mean, logically, can a girl who was shot at the spine still be shoutin "appa...appa!!!"? and appear unharmed juz minutes later...sitting on the ground like she's only been hit by a red paintball??LOL. In that small cinema , Awie's arm looks monstrously huge.and im NOT exaggerating.
We still had 15 mins before venom started, so....next on the 'to-watch' list was 'cheaper by the dozen 2'. Watched like 15 mins of the introduction when one of the boys had to go home.
I definitely was not keen on watching a movie such as venom alone,so i headed home too.Luckily i did.....as half an hr later,it started pouring in Subang Jaya.I guess today's juz lucky?

And today... it really began!

Today being only the second day on the job, i tried to be punctual, makin sure i left home at least 40 minutes before my shift starts.Just in case i forgot to mention, i plan to walk from the end of ss18 to summit everytime i work,to minimise my cost of transportation. Its rather dangerous, lookin at the fact that the car flow is non-stop even with the traffic light. It's not that they jump the light or anything, but when one traffic light goes red,the rest turn green, makin it harder for a person like me who always seems to be in a 'wrong-place-wrong-time' situation!
I reached gsc at 10.30 ( half an hr too early),was still dark...got scared...so i just walked around aimlessly. I think i actually went up ,down, and up again the 3 floors of summit.lol! When i found sumwhere to sit, i took my readers digest and juz stayed there quietly (it was HOT!).
Finally, made my way up to gsc.Sasi was already there then i was told to just stay with his computer first.Supervisor came and asked me whether i wanted to open my own counter.I think i must have come off as unconfident.so he just said that i MUST open a counter by the middle of the day.I only came off that way because i was just informed that yesterday, Farrael had a short of RM10!How was i to know surely that i wasnt the one who caused that short? If during that few hours, i was already capable of causing such a loss...what more am i able to do in 7 working hours???!!!Farrael came like 15 mins later....seeing that i still had no counter, he asked me..."so when r u opening ur own?".i said that the supervisor told me to open by middle of the day.I din push the matter further bcos i still din have my own username and password.
Owell,i guess losing my own money would be better than losing his.I couldnt risk other people's money now,can i?hahaha.
The supervisor was having his morning tea with the manager when i approached him about opening my own counter. He said "Are you sure?"while opening the door to the box office he continued on,"Remember, you're dealing with money here.If got short,u have to 'ganti'". I nodded .I operated the 2nd counter. When the whole username and password thing was settled, i got a loan of RM100 from Farrael as my cash float, which was to be paid back to him as soon as i had enuff of my own.
The dealing of money is quite dangerous as i remember once saying. When one fella is short of a certain denomination,he/she would turn to the next fella and exchange money, but that is also where one could lose huge amounts of cash! You might actually accidentally give/take an extra piece of RM 10 note....and there goes half a day's salary for one person. With that said....by the end of the day , i had collected RM1011 aNd i found out that i had a short of Rm10.
My manager din scold me or anything. He just said..."today not so busy....be carefull...u already lost rm10 on an average day".At that instant i felt like quitting oredi. But they all said that first day's loss normally not cut from our pay.the managers will try to cover. But we shall see....see how 'small' my income turns out to be soon....
And that ends my first official day manning the counter.A loss of RM10....and a walk home which seems to go on forever...because i know...i cant tell my parents about the short cause they'll surely make me quit the job....just like yesterday, when they heard that on a peakday, one person could handle as much as rm10000 cash, the actually forced me to quit the job immediately, offering to pay me for the hrs i clocked in instead!
I told Farrael earlier that if i were to lose more than RM10,i would quit instantly!
Let's see how this stint progresses....

And the ticket selling begins!...

First day on the job is part of the 2 day training thing. But according to the manager....it shouldnt take too long to master the art of selling those tickets. In fact,to put it simply, 30 mins is all it takes. He did mention that he will be payin for the training hours too ( it wont be much tho...cos i ony clocked in from 2pm to 6 pm.
The first day was quite fun. That day ,the ones on duty in the box office were Sasi and Farrael ( both spm leavers) .Yeah...im one of the older ones there, tho i dun look the least like it.hahahaha.At first, i terrorised Sasi's counter. The things i was taught first were about the P.A.T. card( don't ask me what it stands for...i dunno either :p) and the basic operations of the system. The P.A.T. card is basically this little card pasted on the top corner of the computer ,describing the ways of handling a transaction(from A-Z) ....that is
1."Welcome to GSC",
2."Hi sir,can i help you?"
3."Which movie ....?"
4."How many tickets?"
5."and that'll be...tickets for...movie"
6."Thank you sir/madam,enjoy your movie/have a nice day"
Doesn't sound like much, but the entire process needs to be conducted with all smiles.
The number one rule is NEVER raise your tone with the customers. They're always right, even when they're not.
Regarding the computer system, besides the simple stuff like the movie info n stuff, there r also these guidelines i was instructed to follow....like reservation seats can only be sold 1.5 hrs before the show, not earlier....because it wont be fair to the other customers if i do otherwise.
And believe it or not, there are many complimentary passes issued for most of the movies. There are distributor passes, cinema complimentary passes, staff passes(the ones issued by the cinema itself)...and for different passes ,there r also diff ways to key the value.
After about one hr of bothering Sasi, i went 'kacau' Farrael's counter plak.He said that an average transaction is made in 30 seconds or less. That made me seriously nervous.I was like takin ages with juz one customer...cos certain customers can be pretty demanding....even after ive offered them the best seats available, they'll go on askin bout other seats which have clearly been taken. And of course,i took an even longer time, due to the fact that i had to make sure i din get short changed.FYI,any shortage/loss of money must be borne by us.To those dumb and dumber,if i were to lose money with my meager pay, that wud only mean i'd be working for FREE!..and no...i cant have that happen, can i?ha ha ha.
I think i took a lot longer than 30 mins to learn up the ropes, cos next ,he also taught me how to operate the room computer, how to switch the DVD player on, the lights( all kinds of them) ,and even the 'technique' to tear the tickets.
But who would've guessed that they dun even use cash registers. The money are just strewn in the respective counter drawers!Talk bout danger...i got freaked out.AND I started askin hypothetical questions....stupid ones...like...what happens if someone points a gun at us?hahaha.....im just that type of person.don't blame me juz cos i fear for my life. So,they said lah, "din u notice, we're SURROUNDED by cameras. If you were to dig your nose, use your phone, etc, they'll notice aaalllll that".So that topic ended there wif me thinking it's safe enuff lah.
My first day was a rather slow day for gsc summit.not that many customers.so, half the time, we were busy tokkin n tokkin aBout nonsense (since there was nothing to do!) .It's a good thing that those cameras don't pick up what we talk about.hahahaha.or not....imagine all those 'gossips'!!!!waahAHhahAHhahHAHAH.
First day ended just like that, with the manager droppin in to check how i was faring and to confirm my attendance for tomorrow.Basically,it was a fun day.Pay sucks...yeah...but the food in front is kinda great.heheheh.mebbe i'll continue.ciao.

Job Interview

I just can't believe myself.Dumped this blog for nearly a year now.Didn't even realise that vova actually dropped in to view my blog.sorry yeah.Well, that been said...ive decided to make this my blog for work related stuff...meaning what job..how i got the job...my experience and so forth la.
Today i went for a job interview at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Summit USJ. Before i even got the interview offer, i emailed him my resume ....hahhaha....and told him i could only work till 10 pm the latest.i thought that would surely scratch my name immediately as a possible candidate. My resume must have wow'ed him then.LOL.
Oklar....so he said to meet him at 12.oo pm. I arrived at precisely 11.59,not knowing where to head next. He called my hp...and asked whether i was already there or not. With the help of the crew leader , i was told to go up to the office....up there where the THX Screen(Hall 7) is. And so, if you have known me my entire life,u'd know that i have no sense of direction whatsoever. ZILCH!. Took the escalator...and again...i found myself lost.hahaha.i guess that takes tour guide off my list of possible careerpath! For years ive been to GSC summit...but i never knew they had cameras everywhere.aih.thank god i din dig my nose or do anything embarrassing then.Another call came from the office. He said "walk straight ahead.yes.dats rite.i SEE u" .i was like...omg...he can see me...but i couldnt see him~!and there i was, walkin around lookin here ,lookin there like an idiot!
The GSC office was a rather quaint place.a few computers, and 2 rooms.I seriously thought that the interview would only take like 15 minutes tops...but then, mr.G started going on and on about the specialty of his cinema(even pointed to the THX certification hung on the wall), about all the cinemas in malaysia, and their competitors (namely TGV and ...mega pavillion i think). Every now and then, i'd nod my head, say yes.....yeah....i understand.hhahahahaa. And then comes the work talk. He explained the uniform, how punctuality is of utmost importance...especially since he said he'll b placing me in the box office sellin tickets. And then he asked whether i knew how much he'd be payin me.i said no...and he dropped the bomb...a low rm3 per hour! Since i was there...i thought i might as well just take up the job first and see how it goes (I already turned my back on parkson..)And then comes another piece of news...there'd be no epf nor socso since i wont be sticking around for more than 6 months. Aaaaaaiiiiih.
Interview ends...and i was instructed to be there the next day...work commences!okay...okay! The parentals were informed of only the important details (aka stuff that wouldnt land me in hot water) Nope...never told them that i wouldnt be getting epf and socso.Had they known that, they would have said "QUIT!" immediately.I tried searching for lots of job before...those that will surely provide epf....but they only wanted chinese speakin people. And here was a job that lets me meet people...n new friends.
I had this resolution ....i will work for about a month...and stop when i get a better paying job. We'll see how tomorrow goes!
